The 2002 Nissan Altima is such a huge improvement and departure from last years model it hardly seems as if the two cars are filling the same spot in Nissans car line-up. Shortcomings are few and far between on the new Altima, the only one worth note; a rather bland interior is the result of not ordering the leather and wood trim package. In addition to sleek and snazzy exterior styling, the new Altima offers plenty of passenger and cargo space, sport sedan performance, value, and a price range starting around $16,000, to well over $24,000 when ordered with optional equipment.

With its big V6 and sports suspension, the Nissan Altima has suddenly turned into a sporty alternative to the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Completely redesigned for 2002, the Altima offers dramatic new styling. More important, it's bigger in every dimension. Prior to 2002, the Nissan Altima languished as a wallflower, though a very good one. The Altima was slightly smaller than the Accord and Camry, but bigger and more expensive than the highly popular Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic. It was, as the saying goes, neither fish nor fowl. The Nissan Altima is Nissan's best selling car. The Altima has been completely redesigned for 2002. For the first time since it's introduction in 1992, the Altima is available with a V6 engine. It has also been redesigned with more interior room and exterior size. This is the third redesign for the Altima. Last years model was upgraded extensively with new styling and more horsepower.
