Nissan makes it easier to buy a Murano by adding a new lower-priced S version to the lineup, which saves about $1,500 while still including the equipment most people want most of the time. Add the new Convenience package to the Murano S, and you'll get a ten-way power driver's seat, adjustable foot pedals, a cargo net and cargo cover, roof rails, and dual rear seatback storage pockets. All Nissan Muranos receive a rollover sensing system for the standard side-curtain airbags this year, and Intelligent Key entry and ignition is offered for the first time on SL and SE models, which allows the driver to unlock and start the vehicle without removing the key fob from a pocket or purse.

Without going into options in detail, the major packages for the SL include $499 for heated seats and mirrors; $749 for vehicle dynamic control, traction control and tire pressure monitor system; $1,299 for leather seats, high-intensity lights, power passenger seat and mirror memory; $1,499 for roof rails, adjustable pedals, Bose stereo with six-disc in dash CD player, cargo net and cover; $999 for moonroof; $1,999 for navigation system; and $1,199 for chrome wheels.

The SL is eligible for the $1,400 SL Premium Package, which includes the cargo net and cover, roof rack, adjustable pedals and Bose premium stereo. The Bose system (see photo) ups the amplifier power from 160 peak watts to 225 watts and adds cassette playback, an in-dash six-CD changer, speed-sensitive volume control and the bass module that takes up residence in otherwise wasted space in the spare tire (see photo).
