Forbes.com: 2002 Nissan Maxima
Nissan says it will sell Maximas-although they project they will sell fewer of them in 2002-to a more upmarket buyer, one more interested in refinement and less entranced by performance. So they'll load the Maxima with all sorts of options not available on the Altima, like an auto-dimming rearview mirror; an onboard navigation system; high-intensity discharge headlamps; heated steering wheel, seats and outside mirrors; traction control and a limited-slip differential.

In addition to the GXE, SE, and GLE models, the Maxima is now available in the SE 20th Anniversary Edition. This new model includes such standard features as 17-inch alloy wheels, brushed metal pedals and shift knob, front and rear spoilers, and a high performance muffler that provides an additional five horsepower. All models come with dual air bags, active head restraints, child seat anchors, and front and rear crumple zones as standard safety features. Several upgrade packages are available providing features such as leather seat trim, traction control, a power sunroof, and premium audio systems.
Popular Mechanics - Nissan Maxima
Previous-generation Nissan Maximas were portrayed as luxury performance cars, and the company stacked them up against the likes of BMW's offerings. But BMW isn't where the big sales numbers are-at least not like the numbers that Toyota Camry generates. So when the all-new 1995 Maxima was launched, there was no mention of BMW busting. Instead, the ads waxed on about standard equipment, ride, comfort, quality and fuel efficiency. But the new Maxima hasn't given up anything in the performance and handling departments.

For 2004, the Maxima is treated to a few upgrades, a few downgrades, and a few minor adjustments. Most noticeable of which is the revised body style. With its wide C-pillar and very arched look, the Maxima drew heavily on design cues first introduced by its smaller brother, the Altima.

Nissan Maxima Ti - NISSAN proved with the previous Maxima that it really did know how to build a good prestige car. The latest model adds more refinement, safety and interior space - at the cost of extra weight. The new car sits quietly in the mainstream as far as styling is concerned, although at least the new interior looks more inviting. The V6 engine is still a jewel and the pricing is nothing if not competitive. Nissan Maxima Ti-L - YES, this is a Nissan Maxima, but a Nissan Maxima well on the way to realising the potential that's always been lurking. With a V6 heart already recognised as one of the best sedan-car engines on the planet, revolutionary (for Nissan) styling that closes the gap between Japan and Europe and an interior decorator's dream cabin, the new car is a real contender at the bottom end of the prestige market. It's also bigger inside even though it's smaller outside, lighter and more feature-laden, and is very competitively priced. Deficits? The suspension is soft, cushy and doesn't promote on-road agility.
