2004 Nissan Quest - Profile - 2004 Nissan Quest
At first glance the Nissan Quest may be a bit much for some people to take in. If you follow the vehicle's lines, they slope aggressively upwards as you look to the rear - as if someone far too heavy has been standing on the front bumper. Once past that design attribute you appreciate the attention to detail Nissan has put into the Quest. In fact, it's such a good minivan your quest (couldn't resist) for a minivan has now become a three-way race.

The new Quest premiered at the 2003 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. This newest generation is now the roomiest in the front-wheel drive minivan segment and provides flat-folding second and third row seats and the widest opening sliding doors in class, according to the automaker.

Nissan Quest - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nissan Quest is a minivan produced by Nissan Motor Corporation since 1993. There have been two generations of this model. The first generation Quest was a collaboration with Ford, which produced the mechanically identical and cosmetically similar Mercury Villager. The Quest is distinguishable (barely) by a grille and headlights that are slightly shorter top to bottom than those on the Villager. Nissan imbued the 2001 Quest minivan with a raft of minor improvements. Styling front and rear is freshened, and redesigned alloy wheels debut on all models. The entry-level GXE gains a rear stabilizer bar, while the sporty SE receives acceleration-sensitive strut valving and a strut tower brace. New interior gauges and fabrics spice things up, and a 130-watt Super Sound system is standard on SE and GLE. Luxury GLE models also get an in-dash six-CD changer and a wood 'n' leather steering wheel. An optional overhead family entertainment system replaces the former floor-mounted model, though that rather archaic unit can still be specified for SE and GLE Quests equipped with a sunroof. The second generation Quest has been both praised and criticized for its avant-garde styling. Some appreciate the attempt to inject the conservative minivan category with a dose of style, but others find the styling (particularly the interior) strange and offputting. The center-mounted instrument panel - the speedometer and tachometer are in the center of the dash, rather than in front of the driver - has been especially criticized.

Of all the new minivans, the Nissan Quest is arguably the most radical and therefore the one that deserves a serious look for those who want a vehicle they can be proud to own and enjoy for its various attributes.

2004 Nissan Quest - The Car Connection
Speaking of sliding doors, the Quest has the longest, widest-opening doors in its class, which makes getting to and from the third-row seat a cinch. Back-seat access is further simplified by the trick second-row bucket seats, which tilt up and forward (seat cushion and all), much like the front seats do in the VW Beetle. The second-row seats fold flat, and the third-row bench folds flat into the floor for maximum cargo-carrying capacity. Inside the feeling is open, spacious and modern, with furniture-style seats, ample walk-through space and bold interior colors. "Urban loft" is the how Nissan design director Alfonso Albaisa described the feeling they were trying to evoke.

But a prolonged discussion of the Quest's practicality is redundant, since a modern minivan by definition is the Swiss army knife of automobiles. And the Quest matches all the key convenience features of the Honda Odyssey, the new Toyota Sienna, and the forthcoming Ford Freestar, such as a third-row seat that folds flat into the floor for storage purposes, rear climate vents and controls, and an optional DVD player. The ubiquity of those attributes has led the manufacturers to seek other ways to differentiate their grocery getters, such as performance, design, and luxury. The Quest is a performance standout, and it takes another stab at uniqueness with an unusual centerline approach to the interior. Radio and climate controls are clustered on a console that protrudes from the dash at a 45-degree angle, like a stand-up desk. It's odd at first, but actually quite ergonomic.
