The R35 Skyline happens to make use of a new engine postion. Rather than plonking the engine right over the front axle, Nissan opted for an FM (front midship) layout. Essentially, the engine has been mounted just aft of the of the front axle, giving the new Skyline a front-to-rear weight distribution ratio of 52:48 and more linear handling as a result. But what most will want to know is what powers the new Nissan flagship? All up, there will are seven models in Japan, all rear-wheel drive, all four door, but most of which will be differentiated via powerplant and trim levels. The fellow behind the new Skyline and Nissan chief designer, Shiro Nakamura, said: "The Skyline has always been a premium sedan," and that's what the marque is keen to push. Nissan wants this car to sit atop the food chain, spitting out Lexus' in its wake.

In JGTC, the R32 GT-R dominated the series until the regulations were modified prohibiting all-wheel-drive systems (when the GT-R was the only 4wd competitior in the series), forcing NISMO to convert the JGTC GT-R race cars to rear-wheel-drive only. Even then, the GT-R continued to collect victories, with the last one being the overall series champion in JGTC GT500 2004 - the last year of its competition. In the same year, in GT300, the 350Z took home the victory, showing just how dedicated Nissan is to racing in Japan. The GT-R and the Z have always been and always will be sister cars, especially with the next GT-R featuring a VQ engine.

N1 Is a stripped out car made for N class racing. They are very competitive in road rallies (targas) and are basically a stripped out Skyline with more power. Even though they are still claimed 280hp it is believed that with virtually no modifications to the car it produces upwards of 400hp.

If you bought an entire front clip, you'll have to pull the RB25 from the clip as well. The belt-driven cooling fan from the Skyline won't fit the smaller 240SX engine compartment, so go ahead and remove it, along with the fan shroud. While you have the engine on the ground, this is a good time to consider replacing the clutch. Assuming you've already dealt with the power steering cooler on the return line, there are only two more power steering lines to deal with. Both the high- and low-pressure lines from the KA24 power steering pump will bolt onto the Skyline pump. You know all those wires in the Skyline clip? Get them. What you do with them depends on your comfort level with electrons. If you want the cleanest harness possible, send the Skyline and 240SX harnesses to McKinney Motorsports or unStable Hybrids, and they'll splice the two together, eliminating anything unnecessary and returning a working harness. If you don't have a harness at all, call McKinney and start crying. McKinney is working with Jim Wolf Technology to run the RB25DET on the VG30DETT ECU from a twin-turbo Z and a modified Z harness.

The Nissan Skyline GT-R is an iconic Japanese sports coupe in the Nissan Skyline range. Termed "Godzilla" by Wheels magazine in Australia when released there in 1989, it was rated by many motoring magazines, including the well-respected Wheels, as providing performance and handling equal or superior to that of European icons like the Porsche 911 and the Ferrari 360 Modena, at a considerably lower price. The Skyline name originated with the Prince automobile company which developed and sold the Skyline line of sedans before merging with Nissan-Datsun. The earliest predecessor of the GT-R, the S54 2000GT-B, came second in its first race in 1964 to the purpose-built Porsche 904GTS race car. The next development of the GT-R, the 2000GT-R, scored 33 victories in the one and a half years it raced and scored 50 by the time it was discontinued in 1972. The Skyline model continued through into the 90s when it became popular largely because it remained rear wheel drive, while most other manufacturers' models were front wheel drive (which has certain inherent deficiencies in handling compared to rear-wheel drive). The GT-R version of the Skyline was reintroduced in 1989 after a 16 year hiatus from the Skyline GT-R of the late 1960s.

Nissan is giving the world a big glimpse of its keenly anticipated 2007 Skyline GT-R with this carefully constructed show car. The GT-R PROTO is not a near-production model, though, as the interior is just a blank black panel, and Nissan is providing absolutely no details on the powertrain, suspension, or other critical technical details. Nissan wants to maintain the car's mystique for another two years, since the production car won't debut until the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show.
